When I think of love poetry, I remember Christina Rossetti, a self-described Victorian spinster. Though she fell in love and became engaged twice, this deeply religious woman chose to remain single.
She died in 1894, leaving no husband or children to mourn her, but a flock of singing poems that expressed her passionate heart. Her poem, A Birthday, is a lyrical love song that inspired me to create my new Valentine card, Singing Bird. The pictures she paints in words are so vivid that the image almost painted itself.
Anyone who has ever loved, or hoped to love, will recognize in her words the authentic voice of passion and joy.
